Quick verdict

Denticon fits a practice or group that wants software in a browser and a stated starting price. Planet DDS records online scheduling, forms, texting, eligibility checks, claims and multi-location reporting as included. The cost to plan for is leaving: $995 per extract for imaging data.

Eaglesoft fits a solo or small-group office that wants its database on its own server and imaging built in. Patterson Dental publishes no plan prices, and many patient-facing features come only in the higher Service Club plans.

Neither suits a Mac office. Denticon runs in a browser, but Planet DDS says it is not compatible with macOS. Eaglesoft’s profile lists Windows as its only platform.

Cloud against server

Denticon is cloud practice management software from Planet DDS. Its profile lists web and Windows as platforms, and general practice, multi-specialty and DSO as specialties. Recorded practice sizes are solo, small group, multi-location and DSO.

Eaglesoft is Windows software from Patterson Dental, a unit of Patterson Companies. Its profile lists general practice as the only specialty, and solo and small group as the sizes. It requires a physical on-site Windows server.

Patterson does not support running Eaglesoft, or any of its software, in a virtual machine of any kind. Full remote access needs a remote-desktop tool.

Denticon has no server to buy or maintain. Eaglesoft does, and Patterson publishes the hardware requirements as a separate document.

Planet DDS says it serves 14,500 practices and 175,000 users across all its products, as of its DentalOS announcement on July 17, 2026. It publishes no Denticon-only figure. Patterson claims nearly 30,000 users for Eaglesoft. Both are vendor claims, and one counts practices and users across a company while the other counts users of a single product.

What each costs

Denticon is the only one of the two with a vendor-published price. Planet DDS lists a starting price of $795 a month, and says packages, features and add-ons vary with practice size. Capterra lists $750 a month as a flat-rate starting price. That is a third-party figure that differs from the vendor’s own, so we use $795.

Eaglesoft is sold through five Service Club plans: Base, Starter, Foundations, Professional and Growth. All five are quote only. Service Club includes the license at no extra cost, free upgrades, unlimited phone, chat and email support, and Eaglesoft Mobile.

The five plans are priced as discounts off the Service Club rate. Starter is 10% off, Foundations 25%, Professional 30% and Growth 50%. Patterson does not publish the rate those percentages apply to, so they cannot be turned into dollars.

Patterson also says Service Club pricing rose on Oct 1, 2025, and did not publish the amount. A third-party vendor blog gives an estimate for monthly Service Club support. It cites unnamed documentation without links, so we do not quote it.

Add-ons are separate lines on both sides. Denticon charges $20 a month per account for a text messaging compliance fee, and $0.0087 per 160-character segment above the per-office package. Patient Communication includes 6,000 segments per office and two-way texting 3,000.

Eaglesoft’s one published add-on is DoseSpot ePrescriptions at $55 a month per provider, which includes controlled substances access. Starter and above bundle either insurance or ePrescriptions in the plan itself.

Put real quotes into the cost calculator for a five-year total. The default totals use regular prices only.

Contracts and cancelling

Denticon’s initial term ends on the first anniversary of the billing start date, then renews for one-year terms. Planet DDS may adjust prices for each renewal term with written notice. Non-renewal needs at least 30 days’ notice before the term ends.

Cancelling for convenience needs 60 days’ notice, and the fees for the rest of the current term become due immediately. Auto-renewal applies for successive one-year terms unless the order says otherwise.

Eaglesoft Service Club plans require a 24-month enrollment, twice as long as Denticon’s first term. Our record has no notice period, renewal rule or early-termination fee for Eaglesoft. Those are unclear, not absent.

Ask Patterson what happens at month 24, whether the plan renews and for how long, and what leaving early costs. Get the answers before you sign.

Getting your data out

For Denticon, the practice owns its data but must extract a copy itself before termination. Up to 10 business days after termination it can ask Planet DDS to post the data to a secure site, which stays available for 30 days.

Exporting XVWeb patient and imaging data costs $995 per extract. Imaging data converted during the first term cannot be exported before that term ends. Extra export work is billed at current rates.

For Eaglesoft, our record holds no export terms. Whether Patterson provides an export, and what it charges, is unclear. Ask in writing.

Coming in, Denticon converts data per location from supported legacy systems, with a trial conversion and audits before go-live. Imaging conversions are included per location, per database. Conversion fees are set in the order and not published.

Patterson says it has converted from more than 250 programs, and a typical conversion takes 4 to 6 weeks. Most imaging software does not support image conversion, so old images stay in the old software. Through Oct 31, 2026, new offices get 50% off an advanced data conversion, stated as a $1,000 value. Imaging conversion is excluded.

Features that are published

Denticon records these as included: perio charting, treatment presentation, texting, recall automation, online scheduling, online forms, eligibility checks, claims, reporting, multi-location reporting and API access. Planet DDS also says it has API integrations with more than 50 third-party products.

Eaglesoft records reporting, treatment presentation, a mobile app and an imaging bridge as included. Claims, eligibility, ePrescribing, texting, online forms, recall automation and online scheduling are recorded as available in a higher tier.

In practice that means they come with the higher Service Club plans rather than the Base plan. Foundations adds insurance, automated reminders, online forms and two-way text. Professional adds automated recall, online scheduling, online reviews and marketing campaigns. Growth adds missed-call text and phones.

Patient financing is an add-on, per Patterson’s CarePay page. Card on file is unclear. Perio charting, multi-location reporting and API access have no Eaglesoft entry in our record, so they are unclear too.

Compared on the same list, Denticon has more of the patient-facing features in one product. Eaglesoft has the features, but each one depends on which plan you buy, and the plan prices are hidden.

Imaging

Eaglesoft Advanced Imaging acquires and edits X-rays and video inside the program, with no added imaging fee, per Patterson. The profile lists Dentsply Sirona Sidexis, DEXIS, Planmeca, Air Techniques, Instrumentarium, Soredex, Progeny and Schick as supported imaging hardware and software.

Denticon’s profile does not record native imaging either way. It lists Apteryx XVWeb, a Planet DDS product, as the integration. DentalOS, launched July 17, 2026, links Denticon, Cloud 9 and Apteryx imaging on one data layer at no added cost to Planet DDS customers.

The $995 export fee above applies to that imaging data. An office with a large image archive should weigh that cost against Eaglesoft’s no-fee built-in imaging.

Integrations

Each integration below names the side that published it.

NexHealth lists Denticon by Planet DDS and Eaglesoft by Patterson Dental among the systems it supports, in its “Is my system supported?” checker. Both are NexHealth’s claims, and NexHealth does not publish the connection method per system.

Patterson lists Weave, RevenueWell, Dental Intelligence and Solutionreach among the integrations for Eaglesoft. Its Dental Intelligence page states the requirement as Eaglesoft version 18.1 and above. Its Solutionreach page states no version requirement.

Patterson also says claims submit to DentalXChange directly from Eaglesoft, and prices that separately from the software. Vyne Trellis is bundled into the Service Club plans: Trellis on Starter, Trellis Intake on Foundations and Trellis Activate on Professional.

Our Denticon record holds no statement from Planet DDS on Weave, RevenueWell, Dental Intelligence, Solutionreach, DentalXChange or Vyne Trellis. That is unclear, not a no.

What reviewers say

Denticon holds 4.5 out of 5 from 118 Capterra reviews. Reviewers like logging in from anywhere and running several locations from one system. They cite slow or unresolved support tickets, too many clicks, bugs shipped in updates and a dated interface.

Eaglesoft holds 4.1 from 157 Capterra reviews. Reviewers praise ease of use, quick staff training and the color-coded schedule. They cite hard-to-find and inflexible reports, occasional freezes that need restarts, and only one user at a time in a patient chart.

Capterra sub-scores for Denticon are 4.5 for ease of use, 4.3 for customer service, 4.5 for features and 4.4 for value. For Eaglesoft they are 4.1, 4.2, 4 and 4. These are third-party review scores from different reviewer pools, so treat a 0.4 gap as a hint, not a measurement.

Who should pick which

Pick Eaglesoft if you:

A practice with no server and more than one location gets the cleaner picture from Denticon on the data we hold. A solo office that prizes built-in imaging and already owns a server has a case for Eaglesoft, provided Patterson puts the plan price, the renewal terms and the export process in writing.

Capability rows cover the base product or cheapest plan, and each one links the page that claim came from. "Paid add-on" and "higher tier only" mean the vendor sells it separately or puts it in a pricier package. "Unclear" with a source means we read that page and could not establish an answer; "Unclear" with no record means we have not checked that capability on that product. Neither one says the product lacks it. 2 of the 18 capabilities we track are not yet checked on either product, so they have no row here.
