Eaglesoft vs Fuse
6 of 7
Quick verdict
Eaglesoft fits a solo or small-group practice with a physical office server and IT support already in place, or one that wants imaging built into the same program used for charting. It has the longer track record of the two.
Fuse fits a practice, especially a multi-location one, that wants to get off a physical server and run the system from a browser on Windows or macOS. It’s newer and still under active development, with only one public review so far, so budget time to work through rough edges.
Server or cloud
Both Eaglesoft and Fuse come from Patterson Dental, and both are practice management software rather than clinical-only tools. They differ in where they run.
Eaglesoft is installed on a physical, on-site Windows server, with workstations connecting to it. Patterson explicitly does not support running Eaglesoft, or any of its other software, in a virtual machine of any kind, so a hosted or virtualized workaround isn’t an option Patterson will support.
Fuse runs in a web browser, Chrome or Firefox, on Windows or macOS, with Patterson hosting it. There’s a catch on imaging: Fuse’s imaging capture and viewing run on Apteryx XVWeb and XVCapture, and that piece needs Windows specifically, even though the core practice management software also works on a Mac. Neither product supports iPads or iPhones.
What each costs
Patterson doesn’t publish a price for either product. Eaglesoft is sold through five Service Club plans (Base, Starter, Foundations, Professional and Growth), each one quote-only, and each higher tier claims a bigger discount off the base Service Club rate (10%, 25%, 30% and 50%, respectively) as it bundles in more features like insurance tools, online forms and two-way texting. All five require a 24-month enrollment, and none lists an actual dollar figure. The one number available for Eaglesoft, a $300-to-$500-a-month estimate for Service Club support, comes from a third-party blog that cites “industry estimates” with no link or method, so treat it as unverified rather than a quote.
For Fuse, we could not find a published price of any kind, not even a quote-only plan list or a “starting at” figure. Patterson’s Fuse pages describe features and system requirements but no pricing structure at all.
Because neither product has a confirmed number, the cost calculator can’t do much until you have real quotes in hand for both. Get itemized quotes for your specific provider and location count before comparing.
Contracts and cancelling
Eaglesoft’s Service Club plans require a 24-month enrollment. We could not find a published notice period for canceling or a stated auto-renewal policy for what happens once that 24 months ends.
For Fuse, we could not find any published contract terms at all: no stated term length, no notice period, and no auto-renewal clause. Ask Patterson directly before signing.
Getting your data out
Neither product has a published data-export policy. For Eaglesoft, what we do know is that it requires a physical, on-site Windows server, so your database lives on hardware your practice controls, but Patterson hasn’t stated what access or export options you have if you leave the Service Club.
For Fuse, we found no export policy and no exit fee published anywhere in Patterson’s public material. Ask Patterson in writing what happens to your data if you cancel.
Switching from Eaglesoft to Fuse
Patterson’s conversion page, linked from the Eaglesoft product page, says the company has converted data from more than 250 programs, with a typical conversion taking 4 to 6 weeks. It also warns that most imaging software doesn’t support image conversion, meaning old X-rays generally stay behind in the old system rather than moving automatically. Through October 31, 2026, Patterson is offering new offices 50% off what it calls a “$1,000 value” advanced data conversion, though that discount excludes imaging conversion.
None of that confirms whether the conversion process, or the discount, applies to a move from Eaglesoft specifically into Patterson’s own Fuse product, and it doesn’t address that Fuse’s imaging runs on different software (Apteryx) than Eaglesoft’s built-in imaging. If you’re considering this move, ask Patterson in writing exactly how your Eaglesoft images and history transfer into Fuse before you commit.
Imaging and features
Eaglesoft includes native imaging (Eaglesoft Advanced Imaging) at no added fee, with named integrations for Dentsply Sirona Sidexis, DEXIS, Planmeca, Air Techniques, Instrumentarium, Soredex, Progeny and Schick devices, plus more than 55 authorized third-party integrations overall through Patterson’s Innovation Connection program.
Fuse’s practice management software does not include native imaging. It connects to Apteryx XVWeb and XVCapture for image capture and viewing, and that connection requires a Windows machine even when the rest of Fuse runs on a Mac.
Neither product publishes a single list of included features. Eaglesoft’s plan notes show online forms and two-way texting arriving with the Foundations plan and online scheduling with Professional, though no plan has a published price. We found no equivalent breakdown for Fuse, so ask Patterson which of texting, eligibility checks, claims submission, online forms and online scheduling Fuse includes.
On review sites, Eaglesoft holds 4.1 out of 5 from 157 Capterra reviews, with reviewers praising ease of use, quick staff training and the color-coded schedule, against complaints about hard-to-find reports, occasional freezes and only one user able to work in a patient chart at a time. Fuse has a single Capterra review, rated 5.0 out of 5, which cites weak reporting on adjustments, refunds and provider production figures; one review is too small a sample to draw a conclusion from.
Who should pick which
Pick Eaglesoft if you:
- Already have, or are ready to buy, a physical on-site Windows server and the IT support to maintain it.
- Want a longer track record: 157 reviews and a vendor claim of nearly 30,000 users, against Fuse’s single review.
- Want imaging built into the same program you chart in, with no separate viewer to open.
Pick Fuse if you:
- Run, or plan to run, more than one location and want one shared patient record with centralized scheduling and billing.
- Want to move off a physical server and run the system from a browser on Windows or macOS.
- Are comfortable being an early adopter of a product Patterson is still actively developing.
Patterson publishes no price for either product, so get written quotes for both before you decide. If neither description fits cleanly, the Find my PMS quiz scores both products, and other options, against your specialty, size and budget.

Capability rows cover the base product or cheapest plan, and each one links the page that claim came from. "Paid add-on" and "higher tier only" mean the vendor sells it separately or puts it in a pricier package. "Unclear" with a source means we read that page and could not establish an answer; "Unclear" with no record means we have not checked that capability on that product. Neither one says the product lacks it. 4 of the 18 capabilities we track are not yet checked on either product, so they have no row here.
Frequently asked questions
Does Eaglesoft or Fuse cost less?
Patterson Dental publishes no price for either product. The only figure in our data is a third-party blog's unsourced estimate of $300 to $500 a month for Eaglesoft's Service Club support, which cites no method. Get a written quote for both before comparing.
Is Fuse cloud-based?
Yes. Fuse runs in Chrome or Firefox on Windows or macOS. Imaging capture and viewing, which run on Apteryx software, require Windows specifically, and neither the practice management software nor the imaging piece supports iPads or iPhones.
Does Eaglesoft need an office server?
Yes. Eaglesoft is Windows software that requires a physical on-site server. Patterson does not support running Eaglesoft, or any of its software, in a virtual machine of any kind.
Can Fuse handle more than one office location?
Patterson's own summary says Fuse has no limit on the number of locations, that staff can work at any location, and that patients share one record across offices, with billing, scheduling and reporting handled centrally. Eaglesoft's practice-size data, by contrast, covers only solo and small-group practices.
What happens to my data if I switch from Eaglesoft to Fuse?
Patterson's general conversion page says it has converted data from more than 250 programs, with a typical conversion taking 4 to 6 weeks, but it also warns that most imaging software doesn't carry over automatically. Fuse uses different imaging software (Apteryx) than Eaglesoft's built-in imaging, and Patterson doesn't state whether that conversion process, or its current new-office discount, applies to an Eaglesoft-to-Fuse move specifically.
