Best Oral Surgery Practice Management Software

Six oral and maxillofacial systems ranked on published pricing, what the base product includes and contract terms, with a source on every figure we found.

  1. Most included for a published price

    iDentalSoft

iDentalSoft publishes $395/month for its Starter plan and includes all five features we track in the base product: patient texting, insurance eligibility checks, claims submission, online forms and online scheduling. It holds 4.6 out of 5 from 61 reviews on Capterra. The initial term is set on the Order Form and is not published, and cancelling before it ends carries a fee equal to the lesser of the remaining payments or three months of fees, so get the term in writing.

  2. Cheapest published price

    MOGO Cloud

MOGO Cloud publishes $250/month, the lowest confirmed figure of any oral-surgery-capable system we track. Patient texting, insurance eligibility checks, claims submission and online forms come with the base product. It holds 4.4 out of 5 from 59 reviews on Capterra. MOGO publishes no setup fee and nothing about what it costs to leave, which puts both on the list of questions before a quote means anything.

  3. Highest rated

    CareStack

CareStack holds 4.8 out of 5 from 219 reviews on Capterra, far more reviews than any specialist product on this page attracts. It publishes Essentials at $829/month and Intelligence at $1,299/month, with patient texting, insurance eligibility checks, claims submission and online scheduling in the base product. Its standard terms let either party terminate on 30 days' notice with or without cause, which is the shortest published exit on this list.

  4. Best offer for a new practice

    Oryx

Oryx publishes a startup rate of $0/month on the Pro or Automate plan, and $400/month on the AI plan instead of $1,399. After that Pro is $650/month with each additional provider at $100. All five features we track come with the base product. The initial contract is 12 months, then month-to-month, and Oryx states it does not delete data at termination until the practice has had time to export it, with no export fee published.

  5. Best oral-surgery-only system

    DSN Software

DSN Software is built for oral and maxillofacial surgery rather than adapted to it, and patient texting, insurance eligibility checks, claims submission and online forms are part of the product. It publishes no price at all, so there is nothing to compare on cost without a quote. The contract terms are published and worth reading: DSN Cloud runs a 1-year initial term then month-to-month with 90 days' written notice to cancel, while DSN V30 on-premise runs a 1-year term that auto-renews annually with 30 days' notice.

  6. Best known for imaging workflow

    Dolphin Management

Dolphin Management is the name most often raised for imaging-led surgical and orthodontic practices, and it serves oral surgery, orthodontics and pediatrics. It runs on a server in the practice. Patterson publishes no price, no contract term and no data-export policy for it, and its Capterra rating is 4 out of 5 from 7 reviews, too few to read anything into. It is on this list because of what it is used for, not because of what can be verified about it.

How we ranked

Six rules, in priority order.

A product earns a pick because a specific sourced fact beats the same fact for others in its category. Review ratings only break ties. No vendor pays for placement, a ranking position or a mention.

  1. Currently sold Legacy, sunset and acquired products are left off every list.
  2. Published pricing A vendor-published price outranks quote-only in the same category.
  3. Contract and exit terms Term length, notice period, and the cost of getting data out.
  4. Deployment fit Server, cloud or native macOS decides awards like "keep a server".
  5. Specialty focus Built for the specialty, rather than listing it alongside nine others.
  6. Review ratings Capterra, G2 and Software Advice, only to break a tie.

Quick verdict

Oral surgery is the worst-served specialty on this site for published pricing. Four of the nine systems we track publish a figure. The other five, including three of the four products built specifically for oral and maxillofacial surgery, publish nothing at all.

That shapes the whole list. If a published price is what you want, the answer is a general system that supports oral surgery: MOGO Cloud at $250/month, iDentalSoft at $395/month, or CareStack at $829/month. If you want software built around surgical workflow, you are going to be asking for a quote, and you will have nothing to check it against.

What the specialist products give you

DSN Software, OMSVision and WinOMS exist because an oral surgery practice is not a general practice with extractions. Referrals arrive from other dentists and have to be tracked back. Anaesthesia records, surgical consents and post-operative instructions sit in the chart. Much of the revenue is medical rather than dental billing.

A general system can be made to handle that. Whether it should be is a judgement about how much of your work is surgical, and it is the question to put to a demo rather than to a feature list.

DSN Software is the specialist worth the most attention here, and the reason is its contract terms rather than its price, which does not exist publicly. The cloud product runs a one-year initial term then goes month-to-month, with 90 days’ written notice to cancel. On-premise DSN V30 runs a one-year term and auto-renews annually with 30 days’ notice. Carestream and Patterson publish neither for their surgical products.

What to ask when there is no published price

For five of the nine systems here, the proposal is the only number. That changes what a sales call is for.

Ask for the subscription and the setup fee separately, and which of the two renews. The term matters more than either: find out how many days’ notice cancellation takes, counted from the end of the term rather than from the day you call. A full data export is the third question, including whether it covers imaging, because for a surgical practice the images are the record.

Then ask the same questions of a product that does publish, and compare the answers. A quote that comes in well above a published competitor is not automatically wrong, but it should come with a reason you can hear.

The contracts and exit fees guide sets out what the published terms say across the whole catalogue, including which vendors publish nothing.

How to use this list

The ranking weighs published pricing heavily, which pushes the general systems up and the specialists down. That is a deliberate consequence of the method on our methodology page, and it is worth saying plainly that it is not the same as saying MOGO Cloud fits a surgical practice better than DSN Software does.

Use the order as a shortlist for what can be verified, then test fit in a demo. Take two or three into the cost calculator with whatever quotes you collect, and compare five years rather than a monthly rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best practice management software for an oral surgery practice?

If you want a published price, iDentalSoft at $395/month includes every feature we track, and MOGO Cloud is cheaper at $250/month. CareStack is the highest rated at 4.8 out of 5 from 219 reviews. If you want a system built for oral and maxillofacial surgery specifically, DSN Software and OMSVision are the specialist options, but neither publishes a price.

How much does oral surgery software cost?

Only four of the nine oral-surgery-capable systems we track publish a price at all, the weakest ratio of any specialty on this site. The confirmed figures run from $250/month for MOGO Cloud to $1,399/month for Oryx AI. DSN Software, OMSVision, Dolphin Management, Sensei Cloud and WinOMS publish nothing, so every one of those requires a quote before you can compare it to anything.

Do I need oral-surgery-specific software?

It depends on how much of your work is surgical. DSN Software, OMSVision and WinOMS are built for oral and maxillofacial surgery, and carry the consent, anaesthesia and referral workflows that implies. CareStack, iDentalSoft, MOGO Cloud and Oryx are general systems that list oral surgery among their specialties. The deciding question is usually referral management and imaging rather than billing, so ask a vendor to show a referral arriving and a surgical consent going out.

Why do so few oral surgery systems publish prices?

The specialist products in this category are sold through a quote process, and most of them are owned by larger dental groups that price by phone. Carestream owns Sensei Cloud and WinOMS; Patterson owns Dolphin Management. None of the four publishes a figure. That is worth knowing going in: for five of the nine systems here, the only number that exists is the one in the proposal you are handed.
